A recently deleted post on facebook has been circulating claiming that a woman had to abort her 27-week old daughter via Emergency C-Section.
“My doctor and I decided to deliberately terminate my pregnancy at 27 weeks and four days gestation. It was a difficult decision, but her heart rate was declining each day and my BP and kidneys were getting worse. One or both of us was going to DIE. In an attempt to avoid both of our deaths, we aborted the pregnancy with an emergency c-section."
“THAT'S RIGHT, my baby girl was aborted, but lived...so basically it was a failed abortion, but if she hadn't of been a rockstar, she would have died, making it a true abortion. THE DEFINITION OF ABORTION IS: the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy that can be followed by death.” Just so we are clear - this woman is claiming that her emergency C-Section was an abortion, and that the birth of a living child was simply it's failure. This, however, is wholly inaccurate. C-Sections are not abortions, they are deliveries performed for the purposes of reducing risks to both the mother and the child, preserving both their lives. For both to live is not a failure of the procedure, but it's success. The truth is that abortion not only can result in death, but is meant to, and when it doesn’t, that is a failed abortion. There are many actual survivors of abortion attempts, such as Melissa Ohden, but they are not people who miraculously survived an attempt to save them, they are people who survived an attempt to kill them. Life-saving treatments like an emergency c-sections are not an abortion. Intentionally ending a pre-born life is abortion. Miscarriage is not an abortion. Intentionally ending a pre-born life is abortion. A hysterectomy is not an abortion. Intentionally ending a pre-born life is abortion. It's hard to know for sure whether this woman is intentionally obscuring the truth or whether she herself is ignorant. Either way, abortion-supporters purposefully conflate ideas about intentionally ending a pregnancy through induction or c-section with abortion, the deliberate and direct killing of a human being. This is done to mislead others about the true nature of abortion, garner sympathy for the so-called "tough cases," and gain support for their cause. Do not be deceived by this post. This woman did NOT have a failed abortion. She did not have an abortion at all. She gave birth through a Cesarean delivery intended to give her and her child the best chance at life possible, saving both the life of the mother and that of her baby. Since 1973, over 60 million babies have been killed by abortion in America. How could this happen? Through false logic, deceptions, and dishonest rhetoric and phrases like "reproductive rights." We will continue to call out misconceptions and outright falsehoods about this abhorrent practice.
